Why we, the FCUC, came to be
The Christian Education world has seen and experienced the onslaught which precipitated the decline in up keeping it as a discipline and governments particularly in the Western world, which were thriving on Christian values began to abandon support for Christian Education. The academic and scholarly education and development was left to device of individual churches and Christian groupings to regroup and restructure themselves in order to maintain training and education.
South Africa was not immune to these developments and advent of the 1994 New Democratic dispensation became a significant highlight to this world wide phenomenon. The then Minister of Education, Kadar Asmal in the preamble of his NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY ACT 27 OF 1994 under the heading NATIONAL POLICY ON RELIGION AND EDUCTION; made it possible officially to place Christian Education to where it is today. Fragmented; opened to many diverse and competing approaches that has weakened the quality of Christian Education. This had further lowered the quality of the Christian Education as the Christian communities lost scholars who could produce materials needed for the advancement of Christian knowledge and values. An education that is able produce men and women who are able to stand and defend the Christian value with sound and solid knowledge.
The fragmentation and decaying quality of Christian education standards meant we as Christian Educators lost our place at the accreditation platforms created by governments. Whilst we accept that the creation of accreditation platforms by a government was also used as a tool to marginalize and exclude Christian Education; there is a need to create and present quality Christian Education standard which will stand the test of time with accreditation platforms, Recognition of Christian Education is key in the scheme things pertaining to education.
The Federation of Christian Universities and Colleges seeks to redress and remedy the position Christian Education finds itself today. It is our belief that we have a window of opportunity in the country given our population profile of Christian population, to create and establish economies of scale that will draw close in governmental authority to hear and receive our representation and restore us on the accreditation platform.
